BASIC ENGLISH

SILENT LETTER

A letter that is usually left unpronounced is called silent letter.

Bengali : (Je akshar uchcharit hayna take silent letter bale.)

Example : the t in listen, the s in island etc.

TRANSITIVE VERB

A verb that has a direct object to complete the sentence is a transitive verb.

Bengali : (Je verb er karma thake take transitive verb bale.)

Remember : A transitive verb must have an object. Without an object, it does not convey a clear meaning.

Example : She took.

Explanation : Here the question arises: What did she take? None knows the answer to this question as there is no direct object to tell us what she took. The meaning becomes clear when an object is added: She took a pen. Now all of us come to know what she took.

INTRANSITIVE VERB

A verb that does not need an object to make its meaning clear is an intransitive verb.

Bengali : (Je verb er karma ney  take transitive verb bale.)

Rmember : An intransitive verb does not have an object. Without an object, the meaning is not affected.

Example : She comes. He goes.

Explanation : All the verbs (comes,  goes) are intransitive as they do not need an object to make the meaning clear.
